Startup 7AI Uses AI Agents to Address Alert Fatigue

Cybersecurity startup 7AI aims to tackle the overwhelming surge in security alerts that burden security teams and managed security service providers (MSSPs). The company employs “swarming AI agents” designed to autonomously handle repetitive tasks such as triaging, investigating alerts, and enriching signals, thereby freeing security professionals to focus on higher-value work. Founded in Boston last year and launched in February with $36 million in seed funding, 7AI will showcase its capabilities at Black Hat 2025 in Las Vegas. The company’s 7AI Agentic Security Platform introduces several innovations:
  • Dynamic reasoning: AI agents investigate novel alerts and determine the best response approach in real time.
  • Enterprise insights: Leveraging an organization’s “tribal knowledge” — including policies, approved software, and user roles — to reduce false positives.
  • Autonomous remediation: Authorized AI agents can take actions such as isolating compromised hosts or blocking malicious traffic.
  • Incident management: Provides a unified view of related alerts as incidents, improving threat visibility.
  • Using AI to Defeat AI

7AI’s approach uses specialized AI agents — including reasoning, mission, and tools agents — to automate non-human tasks, allowing human analysts to prioritize strategic security efforts. This method also counters the increasingly sophisticated AI-powered attacks used by threat actors. Nate Burke, 7AI’s Chief Marketing Officer, told MSSP Alert, “Security teams are buckling under the weight of alert volumes today. After decades of trying to solve this with more people and better automation, we're still losing ground. Technology changes too fast, traditional automation requires constant care and feeding, and solutions that need to be rewritten every time attacks evolve simply aren't sustainable.” He added, “False positives create a particularly vicious tax on already overburdened teams. Every alert demands attention because teams can't afford to miss a real threat. But a huge percentage of analyst time gets consumed investigating things we already know to be benign, if we just had the right context.”

    Saving Time and Money

7AI’s agentic AI platform has demonstrated significant efficiency gains. Some users report saving between 30 minutes and 2.5 hours per investigation. By April, the platform had processed over 178,000 customer alerts, saving security teams more than 68,000 hours of work — equivalent to 334 full-time analyst years and over $3.4 million in reclaimed productivity. Security firm Cybereason highlighted the growing problem of alert fatigue, noting that 16% of security operations center (SOC) professionals handle only 50% to 59% of alerts weekly. SOCs often receive around 500 investigation-worthy endpoint alerts per week, with investigations consuming 65% of their time. Cybereason stated, “The sheer volume of notifications has become so overwhelming that it is difficult to discern which ones are crucial, and there may not be enough resources or technology in place to effectively handle them all. As a result, critical warnings and indicators of potential cyber-attacks can easily go unnoticed or ignored, leaving organizations vulnerable.”

    Running Autonomously at Machine Speed

7AI’s AI agents operate at machine speed and scale seamlessly as alert volumes increase. Through enterprise insights, the agents understand organizational context — such as which users can use VPNs or which file sharing services are allowed — reducing false positives without missing threats. Burke emphasized that 7AI’s agents are not general-purpose AI chatbots but purpose-built security AI with constrained missions and tools, minimizing security risks associated with open-ended AI models like ChatGPT. When customers use multi-capability processing (MCP) servers to grant agents access to external data, 7AI enforces strict enterprise-grade security controls and authorization policies.

    A New Service for MSSPs

MSSPs and managed service providers (MSPs) can deploy 7AI’s platform internally or offer it as a service to customers. The company is collaborating with several MSSPs and MSPs and plans to announce key partnerships soon. “These partners can leverage 7AI's autonomous agents to deliver faster, more accurate, and more cost-effective services than traditional approaches,” Burke said. “MSSPs and MSPs can deploy 7AI either as an efficiency multiplier for their existing operations or as a completely new revenue opportunity for enhanced service offerings, or both. The platform integrates seamlessly with their existing tool stacks and workflows.”
