A unique feature of GPT-5 is its real-time router, which uses your instructions and prompts to select the ideal model for each task or response:- For simple or routine prompts, GPT-5’s high-throughput chat model is used, prioritizing speed and straightforward answers.
- For complex or open-ended steps, GPT-5’s deep reasoning model takes its time to plan, gather context, and verify its responses for thoroughness.
- GPT-5 Auto uses the real-time router to balance speed and planning by choosing between the high-throughput or deep reasoning models.
- GPT-5 Reasoning prioritizes the deep reasoning model for complex scenarios.

GPT-5 enhances agent orchestration and summarization
The orchestration model determines how an agent interprets instructions, plans, uses tools, and generates answers. GPT-5 improves agent reasoning in ambiguous situations, coherence in multi-turn conversations, and instruction following, resulting in sharper agent performance. Starting today, makers in early release cycle environments can select their agent’s model in the settings:

Tools enable agents to handle business processes effectively. Custom prompts, a flexible tool in Copilot Studio, allow makers to apply AI models with specific instructions for sub-tasks like document creation or invoice extraction. Makers in early release environments can now choose GPT-5’s high-throughput or deep reasoning models for custom prompt tools. The high-throughput model offers faster, context-aware responses with longer context support and improved document understanding. The deep reasoning model excels at multi-step logic for complex tasks like planning and analysis with greater accuracy.
