Meta's Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor adds 'Creator Assistant', an AI agent that automates development tasks and answers creators' questions.
Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor's 'Creator Assistant' AI Agent Automates Development
Meta has introduced Creator Assistant, an AI agent integrated into the Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor, designed to automate many development tasks and assist creators in building interactive social VR worlds. The Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor, launched in early access for Windows in February 2025, enables creators to import 3D assets, images, and sound files, place them in a 3D environment, and implement game logic using TypeScript, a popular JavaScript offshoot. Since launch, the editor has progressively expanded its AI capabilities, initially allowing US creators to AI-generate sound effects, ambient audio, and TypeScript code. By April, AI generation was extended to include 3D meshes, textures, and skyboxes for creators in the US, UK, and Canada, and later to Australia and New Zealand in June. Meta also recently launched AI-powered speech NPCs in Horizon Worlds. What Creator Assistant Can Do
Creator Assistant can respond to natural language instructions and automate development tasks by leveraging existing assets in the Asset Library. For example, if asked to “Make a door that opens when a button is pressed,” the assistant will locate a door and button asset, place them in the world, configure their properties, and write the necessary TypeScript to link the button press to the door opening. Meta provides 24 example instructions Creator Assistant can handle, including:- Build a floor tile that activates when stepped on.
- Create a lever that can be switched on and off.
- Generate coins that players can collect for points.
- Design a door that requires a key to open.
- Make health packs that heal players when picked up.
- Construct a pad that teleports players to another location.
- Develop a platform that moves back and forth.
- Engineer an elevator that goes up and down.
- Build a device that launches players into the air.
- Design a spinning obstacle that hurts players.
- Create platforms that fall or disappear when stepped on.
- Establish an area that makes players run faster.
- Construct a floor that damages players like lava.
- Generate a gun that shoots projectiles.
- Make targets that can be shot at.
- Create barrels that explode when hit.
- Implement a countdown timer for a game.
- Design a door that opens when players get close.
- Build a puzzle with pressure plates requiring specific weights.
- Create a combination lock puzzle.
- Generate a box that spawns random items.
- Implement a randomizer like rolling dice.
- Design a system that spawns objects repeatedly.
- Construct a dance floor with music. Additionally, Creator Assistant can answer questions such as:
- How do I create my own custom asset?
- How do I work with animations in Horizon?
- How do I learn TypeScript?
- How do I implement a Custom UI system in Horizon?

Limitations and Additional Features
Currently, Creator Assistant cannot generate new assets using AI; it only uses existing assets from the Asset Library. This means it cannot yet leverage Horizon Desktop Editor’s other generative AI tools for creating new 3D models or textures. Alongside Creator Assistant, Meta introduced Style Reference, a feature that lets creators generate, save, and reuse specific styles to maintain consistent results when using AI asset generation tools such as Mesh, Texture, Skybox, SFX, and Ambient Audio. This helps ensure that AI-generated assets fit the intended theme or vibe of a world or game.Future Prospects
Meta has teased an upcoming feature called Environment Generation, which will allow creators to AI-generate entire worlds based on different themes. Announced in June 2025, this feature is expected to launch “very soon” and could dramatically lower the barrier to entry for creating interactive social VR worlds, reducing development time from hours to minutes.Availability and Creator Fund
The Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor is available for free as a Windows desktop application. Meta continues to support creators through its $50 million Meta Horizon Creator Fund, which pays bonuses monthly to makers of engaging mobile and VR worlds based on metrics like time spent, retention, and in-world purchases."Each month, we’ll pay out bonuses from the Creator Fund to the makers of fun and engaging mobile and [VR] worlds. Bonuses will be tied to worlds’ contributions to the overall ecosystem across time spent, retention, and in-world purchases, so there are a variety of different ways for creators to maximize their earnings."
