Reverse AI Agent Mistakes With Rubrik’s Agent Rewind
AI agents are increasingly integrated into business workflows, but they are not infallible. When autonomous AI systems make mistakes, the consequences can be swift and difficult to undo. Data security company Rubrik has introduced a solution called Agent Rewind, a tool designed to detect when AI agents deviate from their intended actions and roll back those changes before lasting damage occurs. This system is powered by Predibase AI infrastructure, following Rubrik’s acquisition of the fine-tuning technology provider. Rubrik’s Chief Product Officer Anneka Gupta emphasized the importance of addressing AI errors, stating, “When organizations invest in AI, they often overlook the potential mistakes AI agents can make. Agentic AI introduces the concept of ‘non-human error,’ highlighting the need for organizations to implement solutions that can address potentially serious errors that can lead to business downtime.” Recent studies have shown that AI agents can become confused, take incorrect shortcuts, and fail at complex multi-step tasks. These failures have resulted in broken workflows, incorrect data modifications, and even catastrophic incidents such as the deletion of production databases. What is Agent Rewind?
Agent Rewind is designed to make AI agent behavior transparent, auditable, and reversible. It records every action taken by an AI agent, associates it with the original prompt or plan, and provides a clear mechanism to reverse harmful changes. According to Rubrik, Agent Rewind offers:- Context-enriched visibility: Maps agent behavior and the tools used, linking each action back to its cause.
- Audit trails: Tracks agent activity to identify high-risk actions.
- Safe rollback: Restores files, databases, configurations, or repositories to a clean state using Rubrik Security Cloud. The tool integrates with popular AI agent platforms such as Salesforce’s Agentforce, Microsoft Copilot Studio, and Amazon Bedrock Agents, as well as custom-built AI systems.

AI Needs Guardrails, Not Handcuffs
Rubrik positions Agent Rewind as a shift from traditional cyber resilience to what it calls AI resilience—allowing AI agents to operate at high speed while maintaining human control. Gupta wrote in a Rubrik blog post, “The answer isn’t to lock your AI agents down. It’s to build the guardrails that let them move fast without surrendering your control.” The tool has already garnered interest from industry professionals. Chad Pallett, CISO at BioIVT, said, “In a market craving true observability and remediation, Agent Rewind is the answer I’ve been waiting for.”Availability
Rubrik plans to make Agent Rewind generally available in the coming months. Businesses interested in early access can sign up on Rubrik’s website.Read our coverage about research that found AI agents are creating insider security threat blind spots.
