Walmart launches four AI-powered 'super agents' to enhance shopping, streamline operations, and challenge Amazon’s AI tools.
Walmart is intensifying its investment in artificial intelligence by introducing four new "super agents" designed to revolutionize the shopping experience and strengthen its position against competitors like Amazon.
Powered by agentic AI, which requires minimal human oversight, these super agents will serve as the primary interfaces for AI interactions across Walmart’s ecosystem. This includes engagements with shoppers, store employees, suppliers, sellers, and software developers.
The new super agents will replace several existing AI tools, aiming to create a more seamless and efficient experience. Walmart hopes these advancements will draw more customers away from Amazon, which also offers a suite of AI-powered retail tools.
One of the agents, named Sparky, is already active within Walmart’s app as a generative AI tool. Currently, Sparky assists customers by suggesting products such as athletic wear or printer ink. In its enhanced "super agent" form, Sparky will leverage computer vision to analyze the contents of a shopper’s refrigerator, enabling it to plan themed parties and recommend product recipes tailored to what the customer already has at home.
Another super agent, Marty, is being developed to support sellers, suppliers, and advertisers. Marty’s role will focus on streamlining onboarding processes, managing orders, and creating advertising campaigns, thus improving operational efficiency for Walmart’s partners.
Walmart has not disclosed whether the introduction of these super agents will impact human employment within the company.
